March 2015

Had arranged an outing for our school children in Dec 2014. Here are glimpses of this event.

Avirata (a voluntary organization of friends from Bangalore) conducted a one day workshop for our children on 4 Feb 2015. Few of the photos of that occasion is here.

Some recent happenings around us are recorded here.

Shankara's take on Shillong trip 2015

We went from Bangalore to Guahati by Air India plane. My uncle had sent a taxi to pick us up at the airport. The way from Guahati to Shillong wasn’t very nice as there were lots of traffic and dust. But near Shillong it got better.  It was very cold in Shillong. We went to a nearby park to play in the evening and then took a walk in the Airforce campus.

Next morning we went on a sightseeing tour around Shillong. First we visited a cave. In the cave it was dark and so they had put lights all over. There were steps to go down and come up. There were no animals or moss. There was water trickling from the roof and sides of the cave. In the cave it was not slippery. There was water flowing for so many years that the stone had become smooth. The cave was under a hill and it was cold inside. On the hill, trees were growing. In the cave we had to jump from one rock to the other. I took some photos of the cave. It was wonderful inside the cave.

Then we went to Cherrapunji. This is the place with highest rainfall in the world. We saw a few waterfalls. We had gone to root bridge. There were four (banyan) trees and they were joined to one another and on the (aerial) roots they (people!) had put soil and stone slabs!! There was water flowing under the root bridge. We had gone down to the water but there was not much water. The root bridge was amazing. We had lunch at another place called Clean Village. In clean village we could not throw plastick everywhere. We had to throw it into dustbin only. All houses were on top of wooden legs. There were many plants and flowering plants in the clean village. It was very beautiful. We also saw very big tree houses made of bamboo on trees.
Next day we went to the Airforce musem. There were different types of military airplanes which are not used, but which were used once in war. None of the airplanes were made in India. They were bought from somewhere else like usa, Russia, Korea, Israel and other countries. The name of airforce planes were jet planes, hunter, mirage-2000, hawker, sabre slayer and many other planes were there. There was also an engine of a plane and how the plane works also they had told. They had also told about pilots who had fought in the wars.

Photos of all these are here.

By evening we reached Guahati and went to visit Kamakhya temple. In the temple we had to stand in a long que. There were sheeps all over the temple. They were kept for sacrificing. There were lots of people.

Next day we had gone to Pobitora national park. There were rhinoceros and wild buffalos. We had sat on an elephant to see the rhinos. We could see two buffalos fighting. Even we saw 3 rhinos fighting. I had gone on one elephant two times. We had gone into forest, all the rhinos were grazing. One of the rhinos had a baby. Since my grandmother could not sit on the elephant, we had gone on a jeep ride. We saw many water birds and wild boars.

Photos of Pobitora are here.
